THE ILLINOIZE: Goodbye 102nd, hello 103rd...Welcome to the show, new kids...Governor signs assault weapons ban...Durkin tees off on the way out
January 11, 2023
Good morning from Springfield, subscribers.
The Senate was until about 9 last night and the House was in until around 10:30, a far cry from 4 and 5am that we saw two years ago. But both chambers have officially adjourned sine die.
That sets the stage for the swearing in today of the 103rd General Assembly, and neither will happen under the Capitol Dome. The House is in it's usual spot at UIS. But because of renovations in the Senate, the chamber will be sworn in at the Old State Capitol. Both are in at noon.
We'll have our weekly Livestream and podcast today at noon as well. We're scheduled to be joined by Ray Long of the Chicago Tribune. You can watch online on YouTube, Facebook, or Twitter. It will be on all of the podcast apps a little later in the day, just search “The Illinoize” and subscribe.
Our Wednesday e-mail is typically reserved for paid subscribers, so I have put a paywall down below. You can make it go away by subscribing. Just that simple.
Let’s get to it.
