Good morning, Illinois.
I don’t often weigh in on federal issues in this space, but the federal government will shut down Saturday night if Congress can’t get its act together and pass even a temporary spending plan. So, top members of Congress will all be in Washington working toward a deal, right?
Nah.
The House Judiciary Committee is holding what used to be known as a “field hearing” at the Chicago FOP Lodge in the West Loop this morning to discuss crime, but, essentially, to spend time on camera whining about State’s Attorney Kim Foxx. By the way, the House Judiciary Committee has no jurisdiction over Illinois courts.
Good use of resources, fellas.
Also, former Congressman Adam Kinzinger has started a Substack to comment on American politics. I think you all know my affinity for him, so I won’t dig back into that, but if you’d like to check it out, his content is here.
There’s nothing on the Governor’s public schedule today.

DeKALB MAYOR, DEM HOUSE CANDIDATE VOTED IN GOP PRIMARY IN ‘22
DeKalb Mayor Cohen Barnes, a recently announced Democratic candidate in the 76th House District, may cause himself some headaches catering to progressive primary Democratic voters.
He voted in the 2022 Republican primary.
