Sen. Scott Bennett dies at 45

This is horrible and unbelievable to write, especially since I talked to him just the other day.

But Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup just confirmed Sen. Scott Bennett was pronounced dead around 1:15 this afternoon at Carle Foundation Hospital. He was just 45.

Bennett was raised in Gibson City, attended Illinois State University and the University of Illinois College of Law. He was an Assistant State’s Attorney when he was selected to replace now-Treasurer Mike Frerichs in 2015.

His wife Stacy and two children survive.

Scott and I talked a lot about politics over the years, but there was nothing he cared more about than his kids. This is simply devastating news.
