A couple of notes on our poll...
Good morning, Illinois.
Before we get to the poll, I want to remind you of our Livestream and Podcast at noon on YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter. We’ll be joined by Sen. Scott Bennett (D-Champaign) and longtime Chicago Tribune writer turned fellow newsletter guy Eric Zorn.
Join us at noon, or we’ll put the podcast up this afternoon.
A COUPLE OF CLEANUP ITEMS ON THE POLL
A couple of small tweaks we’ve made to the poll results we shared with the you yesterday to clear up a few potentially confusing parts.
Instead of “Cook County” and “suburbs,” we’ve decided to split the demographics between “City of Chicago” and “suburbs,” as that’s the delineation most people make. Suburban Cook residents now fall under “suburbs.”
We’ve also cleaned up the weighting of the poll a little to account for our oversampling of downstate. We’ve already added weighting for age, gender, and ideology, so adding regional weights don’t change the results that much.
One thing to keep in mind about polls, and I’m not a pollster, to be fair, but these surveys don’t try to predict the future or guess what may happen more than two months from now. Every poll, and this is no different, tries to accurately represent where things stand today. Even if our numbers aren’t 100% perfect, I’m confident our poll gives you a solid understanding of where the Illinois electorate stands in late August.
Both the Bailey campaign and the Demmer campaign tried really hard to discredit and diminish this poll, and I understand you don’t have much choice but to shoot the messenger when you’re getting beaten so badly. Just know that I invited both campaigns to provide us their polls and I invited the Bailey campaign to comment for the newsletter this morning. Neither has taken us up on our offer.
Furthermore, the fools in their echo chambers who like to take a dump on a poll they disagree with on social media don’t know what they’re talking about. Yes, we polled downstate. No, we didn’t skew Democratic. Yes, we polled Republicans and Democrats and independents and conservatives and liberals. Being a jerk on social media isn’t going to stop your guy from losing. Get over yourself.
